I am intrigued by the writing exercises in this new book and look forward to delving further into the underlying issues of bullying, the affects and the shame experienced, and how that can be dealt with and hopefully resolved. An excellent resource for educators, with plenty of helpful strategies that students can use when dealing with the difficulties of bullying - either as the bully or the one bullied
Dr. Martocci’s workbook, a practical follow-on work to her "Bullying The Social Destruction of Self", lays out an effective approach to deal with the wounds from bullying, by retelling our stories in a guided manner that helps us realize how past bullying has shaped how we view ourselves, and through better understanding of our story, help us heal. After years of trying to “get over it”, I found this workbook and its exercises to be very helpful, and the insights extremely pertinent.

So often our secrets and shame are just under the surface of our smiles. This workbook, simple and to the point, can really help lift the veil, and encourage positive action in healing hurts. A very good thing.
This is an important topic to me. My own experiences with recovering from trauma that began at school led me to publish a book called "Getting Past Childhood Bullying." I agree with the author. Childhood bullying can hurt years, and even decades, later. But there is hope for recovery and life beyond the pain. There is the possibility of finding peace.
From the first chapter, this book touched memories that remain from my youth. It's funny how things that were said so many years ago still ache and impact my sense of myself and my confidence. The author gently and with kindness helps to heal some of these wounds. I look forward to reading this excellent and accessible book and working through the exercises presented.
